(Please correct me on the date)

Well, at least they were talking the plan out this time! What a change from the encounter with the goblins!

Jace decided to try to put a framework to the deliberations.

"Thus far, two plans for addressing the giants have been proposed. I will repeat what I understand them to consist of, and then perhaps we can debate on the likelihood of success and whether they should be attempted at this time."

"Both plans involved having Torin utilize the earth in the cliff as our primary weapon. Plan 1, as I will call it for easy reference, would be to for Torin to approach the giant's encampment during the daytime and attempt to bury those that are sleeping underneath the cliff they hollowed out. Our observations have led us to conclude that 2 will be sleeping at any one time. To facilitate Torin's approach, Nas would attempt to camouflage him so that he can get within the 30 yard radius needed to attempt his spell. I would also approach the encampment, approximately 30 yards behind Torin. Immediately after he cast his spell, I would cast my Fog spell to faciliate his withdrawal back to the rest of our group, and our horses."

If this plan works perfectly, it would take the giants completely by surprise and they might never spot Torin and I. If they did manage to pursue us, Cleander will have put up a trap, or multiple traps, that could hinder their pursuit. After we had effected our temporary withdrawal via horseback, we would try to split up the remaining giants and engage them individually."

"Plan 2 would remove the need for stealth, but also reduces the chances of a clean withdrawal. We would approach the giants from the cliff they camped under, and announce our presence with a few range attacks. I must say it would be refreshing to be on the other side of an ambush for once." Jace smiles.

"After we had gotten in a few free shots, they would almost certainly began scaling the cliff to engage us. Once they had neared the top, Torin would then cast his spell and weaken the earth they were climbing on, hopefully causing one or all of them to suffer a deep fall. The number that might be affected is difficult to say, depending upon whether they climbed up sequentially or all at once. If they climbed up in a line, the first giant falling might take down everyone behind it- which would probably only ensure several injured giants. If they climbed up side by side, they might all fall from the top of the cliff--or we might only be able to make one fall."

"At this point we could also attempt to withdrawal using the same protocol with Plan 1, but without the benefit of surprise and confusion. In Plan 1, they might not realize that someone caused the cliff to fall on them. In Plan 2, they would have no doubt."

"I believe I have fully stated both plans as far as we have fleshed them out. I would add that I think we may want to consider testing Torin's spell on other cliffs before implementing either plan, as it is possible these rock deposits may behave differently than the ones he is accustomed to."

The Seventh of Ches: In the Halfcut Hills. Empty 16th Ches - Jaya

Post  WoTmaster Wed Mar 31, 2010 12:16 pm

"I think you have stated the plans well. I am still not convinced that either is a good idea at this time, tho I do think that IF we did attempt either one that testing Torin's spell ahead of time would be prudent." Jaya smiled.

"I believe even with the possible advantages of either plan we are simply not up to this challenge without help. I am not proposing leaving them to do their "smushing" unchecked. I am proposing that the best way to deal with them might not be force, or at least not without assistance. Lord Palfrey suggested acquiring allies. We didn't ask him where we might find said allies. He also wants to keep this quiet. Therefore randomly asking around isn't an option. I propose we report back to him what we discovered and ask him where we might go to find some allies to help with this situation."

The Seventh of Ches: In the Halfcut Hills. Empty Nas Ath'quehel

I have another idea and bring it forth as a less combat intensive option. We could use torin's spell to destroy the giants home while they are gone for night. obviously we would have to check the cave out before hand to make sure no live prey still exists in the cave captive. This would also give us time to look for clues to see if the giants have had run ins with other humanoids. It could also prove lucrative to both our employer and ourselves if the giants have collected anything of value. Destroying their home may force them out of the area to find a new home. It could also force them more towards populated areas which could be problematic though may give us a few allies. Obviously this is not without risk but it will eliminate the idea of direct confrontation with the giants.

The Seventh of Ches: In the Halfcut Hills. Empty Lady Darya

I would tend to agree with Miss Jayashree. I believe we are vastly underestimating the giants, and even if we do manage to take one or two of them out with our assault, we might likely lose twice that from our own number. If it was likely that we could destroy all four of the human smushin' monsters, than I would think it worth my own death at least, but if we cannot take all of them out then lives could be lost in vain.

Nas's option definitely needs to be considered as well, though as he stated, I'm concerned that the giants would take their wrath out on the nearby populations.

IF the majority of us decide to opt for using one of Torin's plans, than I will assist in whatever way will bring the greatest chance of survival to the group.

With Torin's plan one or two, if we do manage to kill a couple of the giants and get away, I would be concerend that they would again, take their vengeance upon the locals, not realizing (or caring) whom killed their family members.

If we do go that route, testing the spell would be a good plan!

If we are looking for allies, we could check again with Lord Palfrey, or perhaps even Kuiper who seems to know the Harenshire region extensively.

The Seventh of Ches: In the Halfcut Hills. Empty Torin Dourguard

Post  Colin Marcus Thu Apr 01, 2010 5:57 pm

Torin sat back quietly as the others discussed 'the plans.' The majority of them nearly guaranteed his death. Unless EVERYTHING went EXACTLY right (and what were the odds of that...) then tomorrow's battle would get ugly... And he'd be on the front line alone. Had to be that way, or 'the plan' wouldn't work...

Sanctuary would get him close... Soften the earth to make the cave collapse. Simple plan. It 'should' work... If it's one things dwarves knew about it, Collapsing tunnels and caves were high on the list... He'd seen MUCH sturdier construction fall to the weight of the earth... and there was a LOT of hill above them. Gravity alone should do the killin' for him. If it DIDN'T... it should at LEAST trap them, and as they crawled their way free, it'd be easy choppin.

For some reason he agreed with Lady Darya. He didn't want the Smushin' to continue... For reasons he couldn't explain he wanted to keep the humans alive an safe. Heaven knows that he hadn't met many worth savin... but there it was. If he knew the plan would work and the Opposing Forces of... whatever they were callin' themselves nowdays... would be safe, he'd not have a second thought. Or if they'd enacted 'the plan' immediately... that would have worked too.

As it was, the longer they waited, the more doubts he had. A little tiny voice in the back of hairy head said that it wouldn't work... Doubt was a killer for a priest. The spells he used were based on faith! But the fact remained, that even if he DID have access to 'the power,' he didn't use it much. He was a dwarf, and one that worshipped a dwarf god. They were there to offer a helpin' hand, but they preferred the stout folk to handle their own problems in the dwarven way.

Which usually meant with Ax and hammer.

Truth of the matter was he had NEVER cast this spell that everythign was hinging on... So many lives depending on an untried weapon... He couldn't back down now though... Regardless of whatever fears his pride insisted he not show cowdarice to these people...

Irregardless of our deciscion I ask that i be allowed to check their lair. I will attempt to avoid provoking them. I will check for any signs of live captives and any clues as to potetial allies. If I should discover any valuables I will take only useful items I will not be bothered with riches as I am not a thief. I Will do this under cover of darkness and will go alone.

"Agreed," the paladin stated, nodding her head at Nas's suggestion. "More information will be helpful no matter the path chosen."

The Seventh of Ches: In the Halfcut Hills. Empty Riffington Alexander squishysquashysquooshy von Ulm

Okay, excellent! I've got to say, I wasn't really fully on board with this whole "lets go get em" plan of action anyways. I'm pretty sure we'd need something in the way of some help, bigger weapons, more potent spells, or POSSIBLY a trebuche big enough to lob a barn at the giants. Mind you, I'm not talking about a tool shed here, I'm talking a FULL BARN!!

Besides, the potential for defeat and death is pretty high here if we go for the low end of the spectrum on this. And....

Riff pulled out his ever present book of scribblings from his backpack, and flipped about a good 20-odd pages in.

..."Squashin's" is actually on my list of ways I'd prefer not to die. See?

As Riff flipped the book around for everyone to read, oddly enough, (Or not that oddly given the man doing it) "Squashin's" rated in at #37 on his list of "Ways I really would rather not die by." Right between number #36, "Highly trained army of mountain gorillas." and number 38, "Enchanted/living pastries"
