Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Prophecies Fullfilled

Thaddeus' head was swimming. So much had happened in so short a time. He missed his armor... These new clothes itched. Noble outfits were at best impractical, and he'd hated the styles for as long as he could remember. The knowing smirks his sister tried so hard to hide let him know that he wasn't as good at hiding his discomfort as he'd hoped.

Still... if he was a ruler, a noble, as it was... he had to dress the part. Even if it did feel like every eye on the street was watching him. Granted... in his plate armor he made a striking figure too, but that was somehow different. That was more 'him'.

A grin stole his troubles from his face as he finally found what they'd spent the last few hours looking for. A small two-story shop with a basic wooden sign outside 'Singular Sundries.'

"Well, here we are, Let's see if she's here," he said to the others as he led the way through the door.

A small brass bell tinkled pleasantly as they walked into... chaos. There was so much... stuff here, Thaddeus didn't know what he was looking at. Maps, scrolls, charts, odds and ends of every shape and size... and culture. He didn't recognize a third of it. One thing in particular did catch his attention though. A small paper, spherical 'lamp'. Lit by a candle that somehow caused it to rotate... in the sphere were tiny pin holes that caused a replica of the night sky to dance around the room.

"Hello... AHhh..." He flinched as his head banged against something hanging from the ceiling. Something with wheels and rust... but beyond that he was clueless. "Hello? Anyone here?" He glanced around the store ever wary of a potential space lion attack.

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Wynnsaren

Post  Wynnsaren Wed Mar 06, 2013 11:01 pm

After hours of being hunched over her desk in the back room of the shop, Wynnsaren returned the quill to the inkpot and pulled the magnifying glasses from her face. The detailed map work was difficult on her eyes. Worth the strain though, she reassured herself after briefly massaging the labor-abused orbs with her fingers. The map of the mysterious caverns she'd joined in exploring two months ago now, was nearly complete and cyphered and would soon be ready for storage among her own private collection.

Maybe one day she'd have the chance to visit again. After all that she'd learned about the place...and hadn't learned, the oracle was certain more information would be gleaned that could at least temporarily sate her curiosity. Never in all her years had she seen such a thing! That vision had been such a blessing in so many unexpected ways.

No sooner had she put quill to paper once more after the brief stretch break, than the chime rang above the door. It wasn't too often that she had customers and while that normally suited her just fine, a distraction was sometimes a good thing. Wynnsaren stood and smoothed out her shenyi gown of purple silk and silver embroidery that had been so fashionable during her time in Tian Xia and pushed back the veil that divided the back room from the main shop.

The clang resounding off the visitor's head told her he must be over six feet tall. His startled reaction to the collision told her that he hadn't been here before, but it was his voice that told her undoubtedly who the man was before she could even see him.

"Sir Thaddeus!" Smiling, Wynn practically floated around the desk and over to the door where the familiar shape greeted her. "and Sarala!" She hugged the young woman as soon as she stepped through the doorway.

"It is such a pleasure to see you both! I was just..." The oracle stopped abruptly and took a small step back to take both figures in more fully. "Something is...different. Something has happened."

She searched their faces with her clouded, silver eyes but could not find what she was looking for. Concerned and curious, she raised her hands to Sarala's face.

"May I?" The oracle asked politely but did not wait for a response.

Cool hands traced the line of the woman's brow and down the ridge of her nose, carefully brushing beneath her eyes with the tips of her fingers and along the jaw. Wynnsaren's head ticked to one side. Sarala kept her secrets well. Even off her features.

"May I?" She asked again, this time of Sir Thaddeus. She pushed a dark curtain of hair away from her eyes, but again, she did not wait for confirmation.

Her thumbs felt the tension in his brow and her fingers felt the set of his jaw. Wynn let her hands fall to his shoulders and it was there that she felt she found her answer.

She smiled and traced her fingers down the jeweled chain the paladin wore about his neck.

"A man wears his burdens upon his shoulders, like oxen wear their yoke. You did as much when I saw you two months ago...but now..." Her eyes opened and flashed silver as they met his, then drifted to his head where it seemed she saw something there that perhaps he did not yet see.

"A ruler of men wears his burdens upon his brow, like a king wears his crown. It is there that your burden now lies." Her smile widened as two other familiar forms slipped into her shop.

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Sarala Medvyed

Post  Sarala Sun Mar 10, 2013 1:39 am

Sarala tentatively followed her brother through the shop door. She was uneasy about seeing their strange acquaintance again. When they had met Wynnsaren before her very knowledge of them and their current situation had caused Sarala to question the woman's motives, despite her seeming genuine in every other area. Wynnsaren knew too much and said too little about where she gained such knowledge which caused Sarala to put up her guard. She still wasn't sure what to think about the dark woman with silvery eyes.

Never the less they were going to need help with the taming the Stolen Lands into a habitable area and their list of like-minded acquaintances grew short. They would need some one like Wynnsaren on this venture if things were to run smoothly for them. But if she did agree to help them Sarala vowed to herself the watch her very closely.

The sylph's thoughts were interrupted as she suddenly found herself being squeezed around the middle. Momentarily startled at Wynnsaren's affectionate greeting, Sarala quickly relaxed and returned the embrace. She was formulating a proper response in her head when she heard Wynnsaren say something about change and unexpectedly felt her facial features being probed (albeit gently) by the woman's articulate hands. Sarala watched with curiosity as the unsatisfied Wynnsaren moved on to her brother.

How very intuitive... Sarala thought with scrutiny as she listened to Wynnsaren's words about burdens and how they related to Thaddeus and his new found calling. There was definitely more to this woman than meets the eye. If only Sarala could puzzle it out then she might trust Wynnsaren more.

"Yes... well," Sarala cleared her throat politely. "It is good to see you again, Wynnsaren. I hope that we have not disturbed any of your business." The sylph peered into the dim and cluttered shop. Seeing that they were alone she continued.

"May we come in a talk a while... undisturbed?"

"Of course, my dear! Please..." Wynnsaren stepped aside and graciously ushered the four companions into the shop. "It is a rare thing indeed to have guests of such distinction in my home and workplace." She hung a closed sign on a small hook outside the door and slid the latch across the frame. Chances were she wouldn't have any other customers this late in the afternoon, but better safe than sorry. Whatever her visitors had to discuss would certainly be worth shutting out any potential interruptions.

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Zaistrun Garess

Post  Eddick the Steady (XIV) Sun Mar 10, 2013 10:58 pm

"It is good to see you again," politely droned the stoic sorcerer as he entered the shop. He wasn't quite tall enough to hit the hanging things, and thought it a bit above his dignity to raise up on his toes to not be outdone by Thad. He had yet to shave all that regularly and had learned from the older servants that his father did not stop growing until his 25th year, so he had hope yet. There still was plenty of time for his turn, and it would come. Sorcerers were not generally stronger than warriors early on, but they never waned in their power as those who relied on their strength did. In fact they often grew even stronger.

He bowed slightly at the waist in a gesture of mutual respect. "I believe it is our turn to drop in on you." He may have been a bit more friendly than he normally would, but it didn't seem too far out of line. Of all the people they met, excepting his cousin, she had fit in with them quite easily, and had really worked with them well. It was almost comical how well they were all at ease in her presence, even Sarala, who found it difficult to get along with many people. The two of them were like sisters, at least as he imagined how sisters would be. In a house with five boys, much concerning women had to be left to the imagination.

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Thaddeus Medvyed

Post  Colin Marcus Mon Mar 11, 2013 12:40 am

"Kings and their crowns...." Thaddeus murmured thoughtfully to himself. He shouldn't be as surprised as he was... Wynnsaren was as supernaturally insightful as he remembered.

"Much has changed since you left us, Wynnsaren." Thad said with a wry grin. "Though I'm not sure how much of it will be actually be a surprise to you.

"What you said before... about the four of us being tied to the land? It's coming true sooner than I expected. We have quite the story for you..."

Suddenly he stopped and looked around curiously. "For that matter, I'm curious how your own time has gone. Is... Glas was it?? Is the 'cub' still around?"

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Wynnsaren

Post  Wynnsaren Mon Mar 11, 2013 12:44 am

The oracle turned her attention back to the paladin after clasping Paido's hand and giving Zaistrun's shoulder a warm squeeze of greeting.

"That he is, Sir Thaddeus," she nodded, her lips turned up in a soft smile. "In fact, you'll be meeting him presently. He's resting up in my quarters where we'll find a more comfortable setting for our conversation. "Please come with me."

Her gown swishing against the old wooden floor, Wynnsaren led the group up the stairs, through a door into a room that seemed the antithesis of the shop below. The furnishings and decor were spartan at best. Those paintings and eclectic objects from far flung reaches of Golarion were obviously held in high regard by their owner, though not necessarily due to their monetary value. In one window stood a telescope, whose height had been set for someone much shorter than her. A theme which also carried to pieces of the furniture. An overstuffed chair, sized for an individual among the smaller races, rested near the shelves of books, worn with age and use. A larger chair, identical to the first in all but size, sat beside it with a thick text balancing on the armrest.

In the back of the room stood an antique table of dark, nearly black wood, with a face inlaid with semi-precious stones in the shape of a seven-pointed star. The majority of the stones were lapis lazuli in the same hue as the painted walls. Five mismatched chairs sat around this table, one of them sized for the smaller folk.

Beside the bookshelf, something stirred and Wynn took another step ahead of the group into the room, holding up one hand to them, asking them to hold their places.

Glas' eyes flashed in prismatic strains so quickly they appeared to be all colors and none and the same time and the blue, rubbery tentacles of his mane waved in agitation, but he did not attack, only sat up rigidly on his haunches and turned his attention to the oracle. He beast had gotten bigger since they'd seen him last. More solid, and his eyes were filled with intelligence.

Wynnsaren had been working nonstop with the creature since she'd taken him from the cavern two months ago. It had been difficult. She was no expert at taming animals, but she suspected that even if she were, it would make no difference in the case of her little space cub. His mind was so alien... He was so alien! And more intelligent than any animal could be. After four weeks she no longer feared him, nor he her, and they began the journey of trying to communicate. It would be a slow process, but that was where they were now.

Without a word spoken, Wynn began hastily signing the same set of symbols with her hands over and over again. Friend. First she pointed to herself and signed it, then to Glas. Then to Sir Thaddeus, then to Glas, and through Sarala, Zaistrun and Paido the same way.

Glas' mane tentacles calmed noticeably and he stood, flicking his tail tentacle back and forth.

Scratch?, she signed, and accepting the offer, he stalked with unnerving silence over to the oracle. His massive head reached to the height of her hip now and the blue rubbery tentacles entwined and writhed over her right arm as she scratched behind them wearing an expression on her face that could only be described as adoration.

"Glas is an akata, an alien race from the stars," Wynnsaren finally spoke aloud to her companions trying to explain a bit as she moved into the room. "He has no hearing and cannot speak, but he has excellent sight and smell."

Upon seeing their hesitation, she waved them in. "Please, he's fine now. We just don't get visitors so I wanted to be sure he understood before you all came in. Have a seat and make yourself at home," she motioned to the table in the back.

"I would love to hear all that you've experienced since I left you."

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Thaddeus Medvyed

Post  Colin Marcus Thu Mar 14, 2013 11:47 pm

"I hope he understands then..." Thad said with some trepidation. The creature was huge now... So much bigger then it was when he last saw it, when he last killed all of its kin.

He couldn't help but wonder how big it would eventually get....

"A lot has happened since we parted ways," he began as they all picked their chairs and sat more comfortably.

Slowly and methodically he told their tale. He told her of their war with the Stag Lord, the siege on Oleg's, their tenative alliance with the kobalds... He went into extra details involving the strange alien, shapeshifting weapon that was weilded by the bugbear that had plagued their first meeting.

He hadn't thought much about it since then. Not with the Stag Lord and his bandits taking up so much of his time, but the foreboding plea that it had sent him caused his brow to furrow in the telling. He left out no details he could remember... except Zaistrun's naked battle from the hot springs... He didnt' want the conversation to be too awkward.

"Something was coming, it implied... something we would 'need' it for.

"Or at least so it said... However, whatever it was... it was evil incarnate and seemed to be controlling the bugbear. Perhaps only aiding encouraging it.. but regardless. I tried to destroy it where it stood.

"For a tentacled blob it scurries fast."

Finally after some time, he finished his tale with the Stag Lord's defeat and putting his undead victim to rest on his way back to Restov.

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Wynnsaren

Post  Wynnsaren Fri Mar 15, 2013 9:41 am

Wynnsaren listened quietly as the paladin told of their harrowing and mysterious exploits of the past months. Sitting by her side, Glas watched each of the visitors in turn, occasionally shivering his tentacles at them, trying in his way to communicate. To no avail of course, but he was patient.

"You were correct, Sir Thaddeus... Much has transpired since last we met." The oracle finally spoke, her clouded eyes focused past the faces to the wall behind them. "You all have been through the fire, and more than just proving your worth as a group, it has refined you. Your bonds are stronger now than when I left you, though there are some that are not as strong as some of you would have them be. Do not fear, it will come in time."

Those words hung between them a moment and the akata turned to his friend, resting his head on the arm of her chair. When Wynn turned to regard him, Glas raised his tentacles and shivered them, eliciting a smile and some signing from the oracle.

When sun sets. When stars fly. You and I run.

It was halting, as their language and their understanding of each other still was, but Glas got the meaning and seemingly satisfied, stalked away from the table to sit by the window and chew on a chipped iron bar that had seen a lot of abuse lately.

Wynn turned back to her guests apologetically. "Forgive the interruption. Glas simply looks forward to our evening under the stars.

"Now," she continued, "you mentioned something of a strange weapon that the bugbear possessed. Telepathic and form altering...that came to life and crawled away? I am convinced that the creature you encountered was a raktavarna, though twisted somehow, most likely through alien means."

Hearing no gasps of recognition, Wynn explained.

"The raktavarna are a lesser type of rakshasa that also deal in subterfuge and intrigue as their cousins do, but in a different though equally dangerous capacity." The oracle paused and her eyes shifted around the table before she went on; a twinge of concern disrupting the smooth tone of her voice. "It is a servant of one master, and grants its master magical abilities of enchantment and divination. Most problematically, however this ability allows the master to see through its eyes.

"It would have the ability to control the bugbear, as you say, which makes more sense than the bugbear creating that triangular sacrifice in the forest of its own accord. The raktavarna must have told it to do so...as instructed by its master. It is unlikely that you've seen the last of the creature if the master has set his or her sights on you."

Wynnsaren's head swam with the possibilities. She had thrown some lines out in the water of Brevoy and gotten a bite or two of information, but she was still looking for one bite in particular. A long shot she'd believed, but now with a raktavarna in play, some of those pieces were coming closer to forming a picture.

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Re: Prophecies Fullfilled

Post  Eddick the Steady (XIV) Mon Mar 18, 2013 6:16 am

Zaistrun patiently listened to Wynnsaren as she spoke to them, nodding forgiveness while she spoke to the strange creature. Sometimes she took strange pauses for unknown reasons, but it wasn't like they were terribly awkward. Sometimes she said things that either were completely obvious or didn't make any sense, but when she said them they seemed much more important than when people like Paido spoke. It was most certainly that noble blood in her that gave her such enrapturing speech and presence.

The strange creature or weapon or whatever it was didn't concern him nearly as much as it did Thad. If he hadn't written about it in his journal, it would have been forgotten by him for sure. Of course that was partly why he used his log for that purpose. It wasn't as if he were incapable of remembering things, it was just that many things to him were not important, although sometimes later they became so again. He would admit that to himself, but not to anyone else. It isn't like it was their business anyway.

One thing that was on his mind that hadn't been mentioned yet he felt the need to speak up about. "Have you discovered anything in your research about the metals we left in your care? They certainly were curious things."

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Wynnsaren

Post  Wynnsaren Mon Mar 18, 2013 7:41 am

"I am glad you asked, Zaistrun," she offered graciously in spite of the abrupt change of subject matter. Rising from her seat, Wynnsaren glided over to the bookshelf and removed a few texts in order to retrieve a familiar wooden box that had been hidden behind them.

"I do indeed have some information to share." She pushed back her a silken sleeve as she sat and opened the box to display the shard of strange metal the companions had discovered in the mining camp. "This particular specimen is one of the seven sky metals known as siccatite and has two variations. Frigidly cold or searingly hot. Interestingly though, both variations can be found within the same vein, as we found inside the meteor. Similar shards have been found in Numeria, which has well documented meteoric activity.

Nestled within the box was a separate bag which Wynn removed presently.

"These fragments," she emptied the contents of the bag on the table before them, "are the ones we found lying all over the floor in the akata hatching room we explored. They are an example of another type of sky metal known as inubrix, or ghost iron. As I'm sure you all remember, this is the substance that was able to phase right through the metal at the bottom of those 'key holes' to unlock the great door on the floor of the meteor.

"Also, it is this metal that forms the cocoon to protect the larval akata as they grow." Wynn smiled. "Fascinating subjects I've had the privilege to research over these past two months.

"What I was not able to find is nearly as fascinating as what I was, however. There is no record to be found of any meteoric activity within these lands. Nothing closer than the obvious Numeria. The most recent account I read was of a meteor which crashed on an island some miles southwest of Riddleport, where there were akata discovered."

The oracle had her concerns in this regard as well. A crash that large must have been taken notice of. At very least a large, falling fireball from the sky should have been reported! Perhaps it was... Perhaps the reports were misplaced...

Lines in the water.

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Thaddeus Medvyed

Post  Colin Marcus Fri Mar 22, 2013 11:57 pm

A deep frown covered his face as she told of her learnings. He didn't like the strange metals when they first found them. He liked them even less with his recent change of fortunes. Bad enough that these problems existed... but now they were in his land... and that made it even more his responsibility.

"I appreciate the information," He stated as he mulled over the strange words in his mind. " raktavarna, inubrix, siccatite, Things he would need to remember for the future. "I have some more for you." He started to grin then stopped short. Odds are this wasn't even a surprise to the oracle... Her comments when she met them downstairs showed she at least suspected something.

"You were right about us being tied to that land. You were also right about the shifting of burdens..." He produced the the (quickly becoming well read) charter from the lord mayor.

"The regent of Brevoy is establishing new nations to the south. I have been given rulership of that one."

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Wynnsaren

Post  Wynnsaren Sat Mar 23, 2013 2:35 am

The expression on the oracle's face after being given the news was inscrutable. These four companions were on the cusp of their destinies and there was within that fact so much hope, excitement, fear, responsibility, freedom and worry that she sensed all of those emotions from them and all at once. It was a lot to take in and quite a thing to be standing here with them at the start of it all!

"Then it is begun." She said simply, with a smile and an approving nod.

Wynnsaren slid from her seat and fell into a deep curtsy before Sir Thaddeus. "Your Highness, it gives me great pleasure to hear of this news. If there is ever a way in which I might aid you and your cause, it would be my honor to do so."

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Thaddeus Medvyed

Post  Colin Marcus Sat Mar 23, 2013 3:40 am

"Well.... " Thaddeus said as he winced uncomfortably. Bowing... Curtsies... more things he'd have to get used to. "There actually was something I wanted to discuss with you.

"There are many responsibilities I've accepted in running this new kingdom... but I can't do it alone. I need people who are knowledgeable, qualified, and most of all, people that I can trust.

"I was hoping I could convince you to take part in this enterprise. I'm going to need someone to help me communicate with other nations, learn about them, advise me on their motives."

He glanced around at the many maps and charts around.

"Even without your gift of prophecies, I believe you are more well traveled than anyone else I know... Your expertise in these matters would be invaluable."

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Wynnsaren

Post  Wynnsaren Sat Mar 23, 2013 8:46 am

She stayed motionless for a long moment, digesting this new proposition which completely and utterly floored her. There had been no vision regarding this divergence in her life. No heads up from the gods. Was this where they were leading her?

Wynnsaren, Gilraen, Tsukiko... The oracle had many different names among many different peoples and she'd always done well and enjoyed her time within various cultures, but chief diplomat of a nation? It was a great responsibility... Perhaps though, it was one she was ready for. Were they ready for her?

Slowly, she rose once more to her feet and smoothed the purple silk as it fell back in place.

"Forgive me, my lord, but you say that you seek those whom you trust for these positions and I would assuredly advise nothing less when founding a kingdom. I humbly point out however, that you all have known me for but a few scant hours of time.

"Do not take my words as doubt of your judge of character. It is a great gift for a man to be able to make a quick and accurate assessment of a person, and I daresay you have in this regard," Wynn smiled as her clouded eyes gazed beyond him, "but there are those within your company who do not feel as certain about my person as you and it cannot be held against them, for I have revealed little of myself thinking it unimportant to your destinies. Nor have I been asked, either for the same reasoning or out of simple politeness.

"If I were to be a part of such an undertaking, than I would want there to be consensus to my nomination. It would not do to build a kingdom on a cracked foundation."

Wynnsaren sat back in her seat and folded her hands serenely in her lap.

Her eyes shifted suddenly toward the other woman in the room.

"Sarala, my dear, you have concerns. Give your questions voice and I will answer."

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Sarala Medvyed

Post  Sarala Sun Mar 24, 2013 9:56 pm

As she sat listening to the conversation between her brother and Wynnsaren Sarala tried to retain an outward mask of perfect composure. Yes, she distrusted the insightful woman but without solid proof of her suspicions Sarala felt it best to let the current situation play itself out without making an unnecessary fuss. In the mean time she silently weighed everything Wynnsaren said, searching for any thread of deception.

She had twitched ever so slightly when Wynnsaren spoke about certain bonds in the group not being as strong as some wanted them to be. Sarala assumed that it was a subtle brush at certain unrequited attentions she had been made aware of recently. The last thing she wanted was a reminder that Zaistrun liked her. Yet she couldn't help being slightly in awe of the fact that Wynnsaren had once again been spot on. Her clarity of insight was either supernatural or highly disturbing.

Wynnsaren spoke of many strange things in her explanations of their strange adventure together. Sarala wasn't sure what to make of it all but as far as she could tell Wynnsaren wasn't leaving anything out.

It had taken Thaddeus longer than Sarala would have liked to address the reason for their visit. She realized, with a small sigh, that her desire to speed up the conversation would have been considered but her mother as tactless and impolite. Thankfully Thaddeus had taken more of the lessons on manners to heart than she had. They would serve him well in his new role as ruler. Just as Sarala decided that her silence in times like these would also go great lengths to serve her brother's authority she felt Wynnsaren's attention shift. She was posing a question directly at the sylph. This was unexpected. Addressing her issues with Wynnsaren appeared to be inevitable.

Sarala swallowed as she thought carefully of how to answer.

"You have very keen perception, Wynnsaren," she began. "To be honest, the quickest way to allay my concerns would be an explanation of how you came about the knowledge of who we are," Sarala motioned to the four of them around the table, "and our continuing connection with the Stolen Lands."

Sarala folded her hands calmly in her lap. "I would like to understand better who you are. So please, do not leave anything out."

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Wynnsaren

The oracle nodded and refocused her gaze to the center of the table.

"About a month before we met, I began receiving visions of that strange symbol that was discovered within the meteor crash site. I researched the symbol but was able to find nothing that gave any clue as to what it might be. As the days went by, those visions became more intense and your faces were added to them. Your head, my lord," Wynn addressed Thaddeus, "was wreathed in light and fire. A righteous and living flame."

Continuing with the tale, her eyes flashed silver as the sky outside the eastern facing window darkened. "I received no specifics, not even your names, only that the fates of you four were somehow intertwined with the land, and that this symbol represents a looming danger to you.

"I knew what was to come, so prepared myself accordingly. Sure enough, two days later, I was...taken...to Oleg's, where I inquired about the faces in my vision. It was he who gave me your names. That evening I dreamt of meeting you beneath a tree outside the forest, so immediately I woke and found myself within the very forest from my dream and not too far from our place of meeting. The stars still sang, so I had no trouble finding my way. That was where you found me."

The silence following her story was a heavy one. Wynnsaren could feel the questions hanging in the air. How? Who? What? Often it seemed that her explanations simply raised more questions for those involved, so there came a time when she just stopped offering them, but this was a different situation. These four needed to know, deserved to know, even if they didn't completely understand. In truth, did she even understand herself?

"Such things have happened to me before, but only rarely have I been put in direct contact with those from my visions. That tells me that these matters...that you are especially important and if I am able to aid you than I must! You see, the visions I receive are divine in nature though not from any one source; more a collection of sources. I've felt connection with Tsukiyo the Prince of the Moon, Desna the Starsong and with Pharasma the Mother of Souls, but I am not priestess of any one god. I am a vessel. A conduit of their power."

Outside the small shop, the sun had melted into the horizon giving way to the rising moon and the symphony of the stars. Inside the small shop, the sigils on Wynnsaren's face blazed to indigo brightness while tiny star motes flicked to life and danced about her head.

"The gods do not force their will upon me," she continued, ignoring the change of lighting, "but I go where they lead me because I've seen the good that comes about when I do. This is both the life I've chosen and the one I've been fated with. "

The oracle closed her eyes a moment and took an uneasy breath. The 'What' question always made her slightly nervous... If the pitchforks were going to come out, that's usually when they did.

"I was found in Tian Xia seventy three years ago by a gnomish traveling merchant by the name of Beagan Blarskinkle, who became a father to me. I was born with these marks that reveal themselves when the stars fly, and I was hidden away in the evening for many years because of this until finally learning what I am. I am Aasimar. A child of both human and celestial heritage. Apart from that, I know nothing of my parentage."

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Thaddeus Medvyed

Post  Colin Marcus Sun Mar 24, 2013 10:12 pm

Thaddeus twitched a little at that! Aasimar.... so he was quite off with his suspicions of elvish blood! He'd naturally heard rumors of celestial blooded people walking amongst them, but he'd never actually met one before... This knowledge did little to change his opinion though. He hoped it would change Sarala's.

Looking at the two of them now... he couldn't help but see the similarities. Two beautiful young women with no idea of where they came from?? Strange abilities that defied explanation? It's no wonder that Sarala had an innate distrust of her!

Once again, he sensed no deception in her words. He looked to his sister to see if she was as equally convinced.

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Sarala Medvyed

Post  Sarala Sun Mar 24, 2013 10:27 pm

Sarala stared in scrutiny at Wynnsaren, trying her best to digest her story. It was a lot to take in, so many things she had never heard of before and therefore had no knowledge to prove whether what she was saying was right or wrong. She had thought her past years growing up on the stories of pixies had broadened her horizons but after all that had happened over the last few months and now all the information that Wynnsaren had put forth Sarala was starting to believe she had led a sheltered childhood.

Nothing in Wynnsaren's composure gave Sarala cause to doubt the truth of her words. Also, the facts of her story had too many specific details to be a lie. Sarala looked over at her brother and found calm certainty in his eyes. It seemed Thaddeus had also found truth in the woman's strange story. Looking back over to Wynnsaren, Sarala noticed a slight tinge of nervous energy about her. The sylph cocked her head slightly to the side as she wondered what could possibly give Wynnsaren cause to fret.

"From all I can tell, your story seems to be true, and from what little experience we've had with you I must admit that you have not given me any blatant reason to doubt you. I appreciate your honestly..." Sarala paused as she tried to formulate the most tactful way to phrase her query.

"Yes, your honesty is appreciated," the awkward repetition caught Sarala fumbling with the rules of 'polite conversation' as if it were an ill fitting glove, "but, and I hope you do not take this in the wrong fashion, I can't help notice that something about the subject matter worries you."

Impatience and curiosity got the better of the young girl causing her to throw all rules of etiquette aside. Leaning forward in a relaxed manner and addressing Wynnsaren without pretension Sarala asked, "What's bothering you?"

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Wynnsaren

Post  Wynnsaren Mon Mar 25, 2013 10:43 am

Wynnsaren laughed lightly. She hardly minded the third-degree from this woman, knowing how well such suspicion would serve her family in their new kingdom.

"That is one of the things I enjoy so much about you, Sarala" she grinned. "At times you can be as subtle as a summer breeze and at others you can be as forceful as a tempest. While I happen to be one who enjoys a good dance, it is good that we can be straightforward with each other. I will endeavor to always be so with you. With all of you," she added, indicating the others around the table.

"As to your question, my dear, I am not...bothered precisely, just uncomfortable with the subject matter. It is rare for me to discuss myself, let alone those things that make me different. It's just not part of my job description, if you will, and actually I've found that revealing too much of myself becomes a hindrance to the divine message I am usually sent to deliver. But I suppose that is not the case here, now is it."

The oracle shifted in her seat and fell back into her memories to try to more completely explain her anxiety.

"There are many who know my name but very few people close to me. Few who really know me. You see it only takes one incident of being chased out of a village with an angry mob on your heels to make one become less forthcoming.

"A number of years ago, I was taken to a small logging village in Galt after receiving a vision regarding the impending disappearance of their children. In true Galtan style, my words were met with open distrust and suspicion and went completely unheeded in spite of my insistence. Then of course....the next night a strange lilting music could be heard on the wind. A haunting, otherworldly melody. One by one, from my window, I saw the children walk out the doors of their homes and march in line toward the woods. Well, of course I tried to rouse the townsfolk in spite of how the stars were revealing me at the time, but the music that woke the children had put the adults to sleep. I do not know why I was unaffected.

"Having no other course, I ran out there to try to stop the children, but they would not stop moving toward their destination, so I could only follow and find out to whom or what they were being attracted. It was some sort of horned fey creature. I should hardly have been surprised. Apparently he'd been affronted by the increase in logging that his forest had seen at the time and took it upon himself to try to do something about it.

"He hadn't anticipated any resistance, but I would not stand by and let those innocent children be taken gods know where. Now that I look back on it, I was fortunate he was such a cowardly creature, for I was ill-prepared for a fight. I was however able to stun him and give him a good crack upside the head before he dropped what little he was carrying and ran off deeper into the forest."

Wynn paused for a moment as she remembered those sweet little faces coming out of their trance and looking up at her in confusion and no small amount of fear.

"The children came to almost immediately afterward and I led them back home. You can imagine how it looked to the villagers," she grimaced. "A glowing woman surrounded by their children whom she had just warned were going to be abducted. Let's just say that in spite of my attempt at explanation, the weren't exactly convinced. Instead, they grabbed their torches and pitchforks and came after me. I ran. A few steps beyond the village and I was taken back to the Storval Plateu where I was living among the Shoanti Lyrune-Quah at the time. So, they saw my strange disappearance as well."

The oracle shook her head and rubbed her clouded eyes in obvious frustration.

"When I traveled to this area decades later, I came across a book of childrens' stories from southern Galt. It's actually on my shelf there if you'd like to read it some time," she motioned to the bookshelf. "Most of them are lovely little fairy tales, but then you'll come to one that tells of how the moon one day descended upon this small village near the edge of the forest and because she was so entranced by the beautiful children that she found there, the moon tried to steal them from their parents so she could spirit them away to join her and all her other stolen children in the sky.

"So yes... In Galt, they use the memory of me to scare their children into staying indoors at night."

Putting it in that way, Wynnsaren could not help but laugh aloud. "I guess I managed to do some good there after all," she smiled. "I learned a great many lessons from that incident and have found more success since then, but I still keep the fey's pipe as a reminder to come to a better understanding of the people I'm dealing with before dealing with them.

"That, in a nutshell, is the reason I feel uncomfortable revealing too much of myself. To my utmost relief though, Wynn smirked, "you four don't seem the torch and pitchfork type."

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Re: Prophecies Fullfilled

Post  Eddick the Steady (XIV) Fri Mar 29, 2013 10:05 pm

"Hardly. In fact, a mythical moon spirit bring their blessing upon our kingdom is exactly something that we could use. People rally around an idea and the more powerful the idea along with the more powerful the ones who follow that idea only serve to bring about a stronger Kingdom. Similar such nonsense can inspire the lower classes to rally around their government and create common ground for all of their citizens. It is a tactic often used in kingdoms all over the place, from the nearby Rasmiran to far off places such as Minkai."

Impervious to the reactions of the rest of the room he continued. He paused a moment to create an illusion behind him. As he carried on, the picture of the sillouette of a castle next to a lake faded into view. The stars were out in full force in the vision. "Regardless of whether or not we do that, the reactions of people can be directed with propaganda quite easily. 'The kingdom of Novastasia shall be and is blessed and directed by the fate seen in the stars'." When he spoke the last bit the image pulled away as it was attached to a huge illusory scroll. It had the picture above it and the words he quoted were in fancy script below, revealing it to be a propaganda poster for the masses. As the poster itself grew smaller and appeared on a stone wall where people looked at it and were generally pleased.

The object hung in the air for a few seconds before it faded from view during his continuing monologue. "You do not have to fear us, for we do not fear you. And your distinctiveness when put in the right context will become a source of national pride. Your sense of fate and destiny will give people security and lead to less desperate actions and you will receive armed protection against any who would want to harm you."

"I personally would like you to come because if we collect more scholarly people from every discipline, we build an academy and teach deserving children more potent skills than mere manual labor, but have them involved in research of all things magical. There are many opportunities for ambitions you may have as well as long as they coincide with Thad's view of what the kingdom should be, which I do not forsee as a problem in your case. You need not suppose your message will be hindered toward us as long as you desire to better the kingdom under his rule." The last statement he made, he gestured toward Thaddeus, confident of his own persuasive power to set her more at ease.

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Thaddeus Medvyed

Post  Colin Marcus Fri Mar 29, 2013 10:06 pm

"Or..." Thaddeus stated with an incredulous look at his companion, "We could not use your unusual past as a national mascot.

"I value your prophetic capabilities, for a certainty. However I would be reluctant to base our kingdom's hopes and dreams upon them.

"We are all people here, and people are fallible. I don't want any of my mistakes to diminish her messages. We can't claim our rule is 'fate' and then make potentially disastrous mistakes," he pointed out to the eager sorcerer. "And we will make mistakes.

"If we make too big of an issue that we have access to divine messages, then they will expect everything to be divinely inspired. Any poor crops, any random attack... anything that wasn't foretold will lead to unrest. Nor would it do to have our 'rallying point' be whisked away on some other divinely inspired mission..."

He turned back to give Wynnsaren his full attention. "I didn't come here because of your celestial heritage, your mystical powers, or to put you on display in any way... I value your more mundane abilities more.

Your knowledge of the cultures, your easy way of dealing with new people. I only knew before that you traveled far and wide, and were a skilled mapmaker. Now? You've added dealing with Galt, Shoanti, Tian Xian... Places that I barely know where they are on a map and it seems you've been doing this longer then I've been alive.

"What I need is someone who can help me navigate dealings with places and people like that. Teach me what I need to know."

He grinned as he commented on her other concern. "You are correct, we haven't known each other long. Many people feel that trust must be earned. That's not my philosophy. I'm very good at reading people. I tend to offer trust until it's abused. You have not done that. I've never sensed that you've been anything but honest with me, and that's the type of person I need in my government."

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Wynnsaren

Post  Wynnsaren Fri Mar 29, 2013 10:28 pm

Wynnsaren was shocked by the suggestions of the sorcerer. Shocked and appalled that he would even suggest using her burden and the perception of her to manipulate others like sheep! If Sir Thaddeus hadn't spoken up when he did, she would be tempted to usher all four of them right out the door, albeit politely.

It was surprising how different these allies were. How vastly different were their views of the world! With such differences, they could form a grand kingdom that could be a bulwark of strength among the surrounding nations or it could tear them apart at the seams. Time would tell. Her visions had only shown her the potential for these companions to do great good in the region, they never guaranteed success.

The oracle looked into Sir Thaddeus' eyes, not past him or over him, but directly into him while her own silver orbs flashed in the rising moonlight. "I will be that person for you, my Lord Thaddeus. I will aid you in your diplomatic maneuvering among the other nations and help you to ensure safety and prosperity for your kingdom and the good of your people. It is an important charge and a great honor you've given me."

Her gaze fell to the parchment that lay on the table before them.

"In light of this, I feel I must express a concern... You've been grated rulership by the king-regent." Wynn's hand traced along the flowery lettering of the charter. "As I'm sure you well know, Brevoy is currently a powder-keg and it is only a matter of time before the right spark ignites the whole nation into civil war. They will seek to use you and your new kingdom for their own benefit. Do you have intention to favor Issia or Rostland in the struggle or is autonomy your goal?"

Prophecies Fullfilled Empty Thaddeus Medvyed

"Autonomy is my goal. The Rostlanders are trying to buy our alligence, we have family amongst the Issians... I have no intention of become a puppet of the Sword Lords or anyone else."

The political nature of being granted this land had troubled him for days now. Though unspoken, it was clear in his eyes that Rostland was trying to create allies for their civil war. People who would fight for them as needed yet without openly threatening Issia by doubling thier territory.

That was not Thaddeus' intention for Novastasia.

"What I hope to provide for Brevoy, is neutrality in their own civil disputes... but a land of safety to their south. We'll keep the trade going in safety from bandits, and keep their southern border safe of the fear of a more aggressive neighbor.

"That, I'll provide for them. Novastasia will be a safe haven for anyone who may wish to escape from the inevitable war... but I won't take part in it."

"I am pleased at the wisdom of your decision," Wynn agreed, nodding her approval. "I will aid you toward that goal in every way that I am able. I've spent the last twenty years here in Brevoy and have made friendly contacts in noble houses on both sides of the line, so I will be sure to keep those lines of communication open for such a time as you may have need of them.

The oracle was more than glad that this fledgling king would try to avoid the coming conflict, not only for the sake of the new kingdom, but because the vision she'd had...the alien symbol...had not yet faded from her mind. There was something coming. Something that had not yet fully revealed itself. Something that was looming like a dark, threatening storm over Novastasia. If war could be avoided, it would be for the best because when all in the vision came to fruition, they would need to be ready.

She turned from her dark thoughts and back to the matter at hand.

"When will you require my services, my lord?"
