"And I'm sure you won't be."

Thaddeus frowned as he thought about what she said. She made excellent points but he wasn't certain what to do about it. Personally, In the Dreamer's place. King Thaddeus would never have considered taking control of the oracle again. It was a valiant attempt, but it had in fact failed. She had done no serious harm to him and those sent as her back up were all dead. She even shook off the domination and proved to be the stronger will. Deep inside he felt they were safe from Wynnsaren attacking anyone again. Paido, Dracean, even Sarala? They may be a risk if the Dreamer wanted to go that route again... but Wynn had proved herself a poor weapon.

However, he had no evidence or sufficient reasoning to back his theories. Just opinions and hope.

"By that reasoning, what would stop you from having a murderous spree throughout Sarkenhold..." he shrugged helplessly. "I can only suggest to take what precautions you feel are most prudent... but don't do our enemy's work for them.

He raised his eyebrows in curiosity as she mentioned her trip to the Mwangi expanse. He knew little about the orb that had spurred the journey, and they hadn't had much time to talk since.

She had told him that the trip involved Rasvin and an artifact, and he wasn't one to pry. However, if she was opening the door... his curiosity was certainly piqued!

"Mwangi you say? Was it a productive trip then?" His eyes darted toward the Halfling bodyguard standing silent vigil. "Or is it generally unrelated to our otherworldly issues?"

"Actually. . ." Wynnsaren replied haltingly, "the trip became entirely about our otherworldly issues. It may seem rather inexplicable but a great many events were set into motion to get me to those ruins in the Mwangi."

Almost reverently, she pulled the orb from it's place beneath the bodice of her gown. "This orb, Rasven. . . Everything is linked. You see my friends, it is not only my current life that has been building to aid in the prevention of the return of this elder god, but many lives over thousands of years. I have been preparing for this moment. . .this one event for many lifetimes and through many worlds.

"My visits to the Mwangi are helping me to remember."

Thaddeus sat down stunned as he tried to process this information.

"Thousands?!? I don't... wait. what!?!"

There had been some teasing in their past over her age, but now? If she was really thousands of years old, what did that mean? Was she always as she was or reincarnated like Dracean? This was a lot to wrap his mind around.

"This orb... Rasven? Did he know when he gave it to you?"

"I do not know." Though Wynn turned her face away from the king as she answered, she failed to completely hide the agonized expression as a sharp pain stabbed at her heart in that moment.

"There has been no time for me to make the trip to Silverhall since I returned from the jungle three months ago and from what Lady Sarala has learned, Master Winter has been busy winning the war in Brevoy. These questions I have cannot be properly asked nor answered with pen and parchment, so I must wait until such a time when I can speak with him in person."

Removing the orb from its pouch, the aasimar rolled it around her palm thoughtfully. Clear as crystal it appeared now, smooth and without blemish. Impossible by natural means. But inside? Inside this magically created stone was written the knowledge of lifetimes forgotten and lessons to be relearned. Three evenings she'd spent with the Recollector but only very recently did she begin to feel the subtle shifting of consciousness and along with that, the prelude to minor physical manifestations of this change. A new celestial symbol had begun to appear just below the hairline on the back of her neck.

"He must have known something," she mused aloud. "I suspect he knew I would one day find him and that this orb would be the key to breaking the oath which binds him. As I said, similar things have long ago been set into motion. The scholar at Magaambya who directed us to the ruins was provided a prophecy decades ago that I would come seeking this information, and that his life would then be brought to an end as a result of some. . .very poor life choices by himself and a contemporary." Mask of calm, cool and collected back in place, Wynnsaren turned to face her friends. "Master Erm disappeared the day we left. . . just as mysteriously as his friend Master Zenji before him.

"But these questions and ponderings regarding Rasven are naught but conjecture, you understand, and surely my curiosity is not relevant to larger matters at hand. I know only that he will somehow be necessary to my purpose here. The Recollector revealed to me that much."

"I wonder if he'd met you before..." Thaddeus mused aloud. There was much going on in the world lately. From Skywatch's alien menace to five-headed dragons to sleeping runelords, he felt it hard to grab a handhold in this tornado. "For that matter... " he paused as he tried to phrase things correctly. It was obvious that much was happening with his friend, and he wanted to help not harm. If he felt the whirlwind, what must it be like for her?! "Are you confident that these are your memories? I mean, something isn't trying to implant false ones are they..." he shook his head in frustration as he remembered her explanation of 'what she saw' during her attack. "I mean, it still seems that these new memories are dedicated to stopping the menace... so that sounds legit.

"Thousands of years on many worlds..." his eyes couldn't help but sparkle even through his concern. "What is that like... are you still... you? Are you remembering other personalities? You remembered your childhood with your gnome father, Did each lifetime have a new body?! Always an Aasimar?" He chuckled a little and leaned back again.

"I'm sorry. I don't mean to bombard you. This just... caught me by surprise my friend. You always have something new to spring on me, and just when I think I can't be surprised anymore... you do!"

"I do not mind the questions, Your Majesty," she answered honestly. "It is after all, dreadfully quiet in Skywatch. Good for reflection and contemplation assuredly but it would be deceptive of me not to admit it was a touch lonely as well, and it seems rare for us to have time for conversation these days."

The sound of a frolicking akata turned her head and senses out beyond the little shrine. Glas was tearing around merrily somewhere near the edge of the garden, no doubt ripping up sleeping petunias and parsnips with its claws. Yuri would be requiring some penance in the spring. . . Fortunately, weeding didn't bother her overmuch. She was getting a good deal of practice at it in Skywatch, as she and Kaz kept up one of the small gardens to supplement their food supply during their stay. Wynn cringed thinking of what it would look like after a week of neglect.

"I have only scratched the surface of my recollections so there is much that I do not yet know," she continued, turning away from the raucous sounds of the space-kraken, "but in the lives I have so far revisited, while my spirit has resided in different bodies, I believe all have been familiarly celestial. It is. . .difficult to explain. The absorption of old memories is not like watching a play but a more gradual and subliminal experience."

Wynnsaren quirked up the corner of her mouth. "But as for your lack of surprises. . . You are the king of a young nation, a predestined champion against this darkest threat and not to mention -- about to wed a fey queen. Oh, my dear, there are many surprises left to you!"

A little giggle managed to escape the confines of her lips as she thought of all the life she prayed was yet ahead of the young king. If fortune smiled upon her, maybe she would even bear witness to those moments herself!

Thaddeus nodded and laughed. "You... definitely have a point there!"

He was glad to see her still giggle. Wynnsaren had many sides to her, a byproduct of living such an interesting life. She'd had to be so many versions of Wynn to so many different people in so many cultures... He often wondered which was the real one.

He believed her when she said she was open and honest with him, but there were times he could sense a sadness... something missing. He had thought it was entirely the way her gods moved her around, the way she was always the stranger, an outsider... Perhaps this was what she missing? Something that she didn't even realize she was missing? He couldn't imagine what remembering all those lives would do to a person.

"You do realize of course," he said with a smirk. "That we're going to have to resume our lessons once you get a grasp on this...

"I love hearing about the places you've visited... but if you're going to start adding in other worlds and ancient history into the equation..."He shook his head in astonishment.

"Oh yes... I'll want to hear it all!" He laughed as he realized she now, or soon would, have more stories then he could hear in a lifetime.

"Our lessons?" Wynnsaren chuckled. "You mean my excuses to get you put your responsibilities on the back burner for an hour or so? I look forward to it!"

The authenticity of her smile was mitigated by the feeling that such a chance would be a long time in coming. She sensed that things were unfolding quickly now. Events were reaching maturation, and not only the Fated thread with which she was so tightly intertwined but others of which she had been given no foreknowledge. Over the years (millenia perhaps!), the Oracle had developed a certain sensitivity to the tremors within the Tapestry being woven through the lives around her. Now she felt heightened sense of urgency; for herself and for each of the Fated Four.

Sadly, there was no time in the present for snowball fights or horseback rides along the grassy plains. Now was the time for preparation.

The aasimar sighed off a bit of the tension that was building in her shoulders.

"Thank you for hearing me out, Your Majesty," she curtsied deeply, "and thank you for your input and escort, Sir Paido. There is a good deal of business for me to attend to before I leave once more for Skywatch, as no doubt you both have many duties to see to as well."

"I suppose you're right," Thaddeus said with feigned annoyance. "This place won't run itself!"

He chuckled at the little joke. Frankly, the kingdom was surprisingly self-sufficient. Somehow he doubted that the leaders of Mivon or Pitax could just up and leave for random adventures for weeks at a time... Novastasia was quite the model of efficiency.

He stood back up and brushed himself off. "Hopefully I'll see you again before you return to Skywatch," he said with a warm smile. "Well, thank you for coming to me with your concerns. I hope that you keep me informed of where things go from here. In regards to both living arrangements and that orb..."

"You have both made your feelings known about my leaving the tower so when my time runs out in Skywatch, I will return to my place here." She nodded to the two men, before tucking the orb safely back into its pouch. "As to the this. . . you have my word." Wynnsaren bid them both farewell and drifted off into the garden to collect her wayward, tentacled companion.

Finding ambassadorial trainees in a the few days she had in town would not be easy but she had to try, for the thought of pulling herself away from the mystery script in Skywatch was inconceivable! Especially so now that she felt some progress -- infinitesimal though it may seem, was being made.

Ugh . . . She did not however, envy whomever would be facing down the Mivonian Council. . .
