REVIEW

I hope Stallone got royalties for this movie. SERIOUSLY... SOMEONE was a major Stallone fan when they wrote this movie. There is a MAJOR dose of Rocky in this movie... but not as much as the preview hints at. Fact remains that there is a LOT more of 'Over the Top' in there then there is 'Rocky'.

As a major fan of BOTH movies, I have to say I'm very surpised how well the movies merge together.

Some Spoilers:

Despite the trailers... the movie is NOT about Giant robots... Nor is it really about Robots replacing the human element. This is a movie about a father trying to connect with an estranged son for a few months after his mother died and he'll end up with rich aunt.

The kid is someone that he's never met, and has nothing in common with. It turns out that the kid is a fan of 'robot boxing'. Which is really a mcguffin for anything the two can bond over. I'm pretty sure I've seen the same movie with sports, racing, and repairing old cars.

The other thing that is interesting is the robots represent.. . EVERYTHING this man has left. He owes everyone money, Constantly betting everything he has on one last fight... until he's digging for robot parts in a scrap yard JUST to keep above water. Every battle it's in, Your on the edge of your seat... because you know this is IT for these characters... EVERYTHING rides on the next victory...

Again, little different if they were gambling on a poker game or stock car race...

As for the robots themselves... I'm not sure if my disappointment with Transformers is raising my opinion of THIS movie... but the battles were great, the designs were awesome... And it WORKED.

EVERYTHING about this movie worked in ways I wasn't expecting. I honestly can't recommend it enough ^_^
