I channeled today!

I was in the kitchen when I heard a noise coming from the yard. As I entered the yard I met Kheldyn who had also come rushing from the stables. A horse stood in the yard with Father slumped in the saddle. It was early for him to return from the docks, too early. I knew he’d a shipment of wine due in today. That be when I noticed the blood on his coat.

He must’ve been attacked, his horse brought him home automatically.

I remember wishing mother were there. She’d be able to heal him. Kheldyn and I got him from his horse and into the house. We lay him on his bed. Kheldyn began undressing him and I went to the kitchen to get supplies to dress his wounds. I was a bevy of emotions, but my hands worked automatically. My mother did not rely on the Power exclusively to heal and I had learned all I could.

I was filled with nervous excitement, just the kind before something big happens. Like waiting for Sunday, or Bel Tine. I knelt by da’s bedside and began to clean his wounds. I was suddenly filled with unquantifiable joy! My hands were on da’s body and I watched with amazement as his skin began to knit back together!

I do be alive and I am grateful for it!

A week after I healed my father, I was feeling peculiar, confused and giddy. Then I became very ill, I was burning with fever for several days. I nearly died.

When I awoke my mother was back from one of her many trips to the White Tower in Tar Valon. She told me I was lucky to be alive, that my illness was in response to my channeling untrained, and it would happen each time I channeled, growing closer to the event until they happend simultaneously. I needed to learn some control by then or I could very well die. She told me I would need to go to the tower and train to be Aes Sedai like her. But for now she would train me at home.

Mother has trained me in Healing, which it appears I have a Talent for, to take her place here as Illian’s First Healer. I will be filling in for her while she is away on Tower business. They are sending her away for the first time. I think she be a bit nervous and excited though she doesn’t show it. She plans to keep in touch through the Yellow’s Eyes and Ears Network. She has told me of her local contacts and shown me the signals. Things I would learn eventually anyway when I become a Yellow.

I do be a bit nervous myself. I be unsure of the welcome I shall receive with my mother’s patients. After all, I be just a girl of 15. If all goes well, mother will put it to the Amyrlin to grant her a boon regarding my training. I am scheduled to go to Tar Valon to begin training Saban next, when I turn 16. Mother believes that as First Healer of Illian, she must leave me in charge when away on Tower business, therefore I would go to Tar Valon to train, but return to Illian to serve in her stead when the Tower needs her. I do hope it works. Mother says if Siuan won’t agree then she will not send me to the Tower but will continue to train me herself, until I am able to test for the shawl.

Kheldyn is so infuriating! Seems now that he is learning the family business from Father, he doesn’t have time for his little sister, or his chores! Which means that when mother is away, I be responsible for her patients, the cooking, cleaning, housework, and the livestock and stables too! He’d never be alowed to behave this way in Tar Valon. I sometimes wish they would send him along to train with the Younglings. Then he would learn responsibility be not limited to pleasant tasks. Alas tho, I do enjoy having Tar Valon all to myself.

Perhaps I shall talk with da, though I do no hold out much hope.

I sometimes miss how close he and I did be when we were growing up. Sharing our make-believe stories of being an Aes Sedai and him being the Dragon Reborn, and my Warder, too! I wonder sometimes if he still be sensitive...

I do be greatly worried about mother. She missed her last appointed contact. Normally she gives me a dream once a week using a dream ter’angreal, to let me know all is well. It has been three nights now since the appointed night and I have heard no word.

Da and Kheldyn say I be overly suspicious. I will give it one week, then I do need to do something.

I had to sneak away from home to avoid Kheldyn stopping me or coming with me. I be on route to Camelyn. Logain do be caught and will be paraded there and a caravan will be taking him to Tar Valon. It be safer than traveling alone.

Trollocs! My first night in Camelyn, and the city is full to bursting, and the inn where I managed to get some space is attacked by trollocs! I remembered they didn’t like bright light so I used the lights weave I learned, my last time in the Tower, to blind them. Some other patrons of the Inn helped fight them off. Eventually, they left, but then it was realized they had made off with the stablemaster’s daughter. This filthy beggar led us in the direction they went and I and some of the others went to rescue her. We were able to free her and bring her back safely. Master Ferrin insisted upon individual rooms for each of us and granted the remainder of our stay on him, including food and drink!

The fellow rescuers included a lad from the Two Rivers in west Andor, a frail looking borderlander, and a self-righteous Tarrien.

The Andorian lad appears to be a farmer and claims to be looking for some friends of his. What they be doing in the city is inconceivable to me.

The borderlander, while appearing frail, put up a good fight. He be a good, albeit slow, conversationalist and I quite like him. He reminds me of Kheldyn, tho I cannot fathom why.

The Tarrien is mostly unbearable and takes it in turn to insult me at every possibility. He gambles, drinks and eats to excess. For all his faults, he does seem to know the proper end of his sword. A pity he is Tarrien, for he is quite handsome in those tight pants.

On our return to town we picked up a follower, or I did at the least. An Aiel. He seems to believe me an Aes Sedai, despite my protest and seems content to follow me around. He is always over my shoulder, which I find disconcerting. I do be curious what he possibly thinks he will find with me?

Today was Logain’s Parade through Camelyn. I went to see him in person, being carted along like a prize. It be all I could muster not to sick up thinking about his plans to gain control of Illian! Thank the Light that he be stopped and safely in Aes Sedai hands. Normally I’d think it a pity that a man would no doubt die from gentling, in any other case I should wish for a way to heal. In Logain’s case, I hope he suffers for the turmoil and destruction he has left in his wake. Fortune preserve us that Illian still stands unscathed.

We nearly had a run in with some Whitecloaks. They were apparently looking for a group from the Two Rivers – perhaps the same ones Lem is looking for?

[NOTE: They were looking for Lems friends, and a possible encounter was sidestepped by Lem not being questioned by them]

While out in the New City, I purchased medalions for each of my new acquaintences, a token to find them by. You never know when it will be useful.

Tameiryn's Journal Empty Re: Tameiryn's Journal

Post  WoTmaster Mon Sep 21, 2009 8:01 pm

Adar 24, 998 NE

Yesterday we had seen a suspicious character watching us. Some thought it nothing, until he showed up at the inn last night. Master Ferrin knew him and was able to get us his address. We questioned him and found out that he was keeping an eye on our group for the Whitecloaks. My acquaintences have several theories about the significance of this, but I do think it be simply a case of mistaken identity.

[NOTE: The Whitecloak theories were very entertaining to listen to, but had nothing to do with anything... it was merely a point of reference that they were looking for Rand, Matt and Perrin. The suspicious character was also just a sidenote, that became somewhat larger due to the fact that I was running out of prepared material! I had a set schedule for departure based on Logain’s escort leaving for Tar Valon.]

Then the beggar showed up again. He has been pestering Lem about his hunting knife. This time he claimed the Lieutenant from the Queen’s Guard sent him to bring us to meet with him. We went, tho we agreed it was suspicious.

Jaheed, the Aiel, stayed outside to keep watch while the rest of us went into the building the beggar led us to. Casabla and Lem led the way, followed by Valdrid and me. We were led upstairs by an ill-kempt “guardsman”.

The Tarrien led the way and from what I pieced together later walked into an ambush. I heard Jaheed outside and went to help him pursue the beggar. When we returned everyone else was upstairs. Three of the ambushers were unconscious, their cohort lying dead with his innards slashed open.

After questioning them we learned the beggar paid them 5 gold crowns each to attack us and turn our belongings over to him. They could keep our money. We split their bounty amongst ourselves and let them go with a warning. I would know if they stepped out of line.

Tomorrow morning I leave for Tar Valon. My companions wish to accompany me. I will allow it for now.

Tameiryn's Journal Empty Re: Tameiryn's Journal

Post  WoTmaster Mon Sep 21, 2009 8:04 pm

I awoke early – earlier than I had planned – by a noise from down the hall. It appeared our friendly beggar was back. He broke into Lem’s room and stole his hunting knife. There must be something special about this knife that I am not seeing. Perhaps I can examine it and see.

Bennet had Daisher saddled and ready for my early departure, as well as the Tarrien’s horse. He and Valdrid mounted up and the three of us tore off in persuit, Lem and Jaheed following on foot.

What followed was one of the most bizzare experiences I have ever had. We followed him to a store cellar – and there, in the cellar, a Waygate! A massive stone doorway inside the basement! We persued him into the Ways and caught up with him and his Trolloc friends! I had learned somewhat of the Ways during my periods at Tar Valon, but never seen them in person. Inside was dark, so very dark and I could feel the taint on the place. They are in obvious disrepair, and likely dangerous.

Eventually the beggar fled and Lem retrieved his knife. We were able to retrace our steps and make it back to Camelyn, thank the Light. This brought up a very disturbing point. The trollocs were using the Ways to come south and attack, out of the Blight.

[NOTE: The “beggar” aka Padan Fain was only after Lem’s hunting knife because he sensed it was made with the Power and would help him kill Rand, aka the Dragon Reborn. He set up the Trolloc raid on the inn as well as the ambush at the building to try and get that knife. When those failed he stole it.]

On our second day out of Camelyn we caught up the caravan. I spoke with the Aes Sedai, including Elaida Sedai, the Queen’s Advisor. I did not know them personally, as my lessons in the Tower rarely involved Reds.

They expressed pleasure at my returning to the Tower, and continuing my studies. They did not show it openly, but I sensed they were displeased when I stood by the bargain made years ago regarding my training. I would train at the Tower but would return home to Illian when the Tower called my mother away, so I could serve in her place as First Healer. My reason for going to the Tower now was to obtain assistance in finding her and bringing her home. Then, and only then, would I return to complete my training.

As I returned from the Aes Sedai tents I passed by Logain’s cage. To my surprise Valdrid was talking with him. I wonder why and what about? A pity I know not the weave for listening in.

[NOTE: Originally the sequence with the wolves and cave bear was supposed to be just before ariving in Tar Valon, if you chose not to join the caravan.]

We finally arrived in Tar Valon. Traveling with the caravan was much slower, but much safer than we could have traveled without them. Safety was the reason I agreed to my new companions traveling with me to Tar Valon in the first place.

We were given rooms in the hostel and I put my name in for an audience with the Amyrlin Seat.

Today I walked the Tower grounds. The Library is vast. The Younglings being trained by the warders, faces have changed here and there. It has been several months since I was last here, though my room looks just as I left it. I reported to the Mistress of Novices to see if I could sit in on a few classes during my stay.

Lem went with me to see the Amyrlin. I coached him on the proper eticate as we went to the Tower. The Mother gave me leave to make my inquiries to the Yellow and to search out my mother with any information gleaned. But, after I must return to complete my training. She would only tell Lem that if his friends were with Moraine – they were safe.

I met with Suana Dragand, the First Weaver for the Yellow. It was decided that information would be requested via the Eyes and Ears, when anything was discovered a course of action would be decided. I do intend to learn what I can in the meantime.

Valdrid did go to see the Ogier at the Grove today. He be hoping to learn the Ogier language to be able to accurately navigate the Ways. He intends to go to the gates in the Blight and lock them so that they cannot be used by Shadowspawn. I agree that this be a worthy goal. I wish to find my mother first. I feel that she be in danger and I needs must make haste.

Valdrid has also taken a shining to the Horn of Valere. I think he believes he can find it and use it for himself.

[NOTE: This interest was just too perfect. Not only did it set you all up for the Horn of Valere Hunt but the Waygate closing gave me a ton of stuff to work with later!]

He has made a discovery in the Library. Tho he tried to hide it from us all. He seems to have found the secret file rooms. Lem had overheard two Aes Sedai talking about a missing piece of paper. He had found it, containing a riddle. I was watching the area that Lem and I had found to see if any Aes Sedai came near. I was startled to see Valdrid walk right out of the Tapestry hanging on the wall! I found some information regarding my mother’s mission in the Journal room. Seems she was to accompany another Aes Sedai to Toman Head to investigate some occurances there. Rumors of women wielding the One Power attacking villagers!

[NOTE: Couldn’t believe you got the riddle so quickly, had to come up with the rooms off the fly. The locked room contained, among other things, a complete listing of the Novices, Accepted and Aes Sedai and known missions, and the locations of other secret cashes in the Tower (where the angreal, sa’angreal and ter’angreal were stored). The only way in was with Tameiryn’s help and she would have needed to watch an Aes Sedai undo the ward on the door to be able to open it herself.]

These past two weeks have taught me many things, both in classes and in the Library. I have learned several new weaves, tho I do no be proficient in them all as of yet. I did discover that the cause for my mother’s trip was only partly to do with investigating the rumors of attack. She, among others, have been assigned to hunt out the Black Ajah. This is the first acknowledgement of its existance I did ever find or hear of. It did always be denied. If there be darkfriends among the Aes Sedai... then who can be trusted?

I be set to leave two days hence to meet with a sister in Katar in Arad Doman. She do be in contact with the leader of the investigation on the dissappearances of my mother and other Aes Sedai in the west. Mother did insist in a trained guardian, a graduate of the Warder training, accompanying me. I did meet the young man selected today. Name of Viska, another Borderlander, tho from Arafel. He be very handsome. He seems very quiet and soft spoken, perhaps I won’t have much difficulty with him.

As for my other companions, they do be prepared to travel with me. We intend to travel via the Ways as Valdrid believes he will be able to navigate them with what he has learned from the Ogier. I think it best we do not tell the Warder of this plan. I needs must make haste to the west and he certainly will think it too dangerous. I needs must prepare for departure. There be supplies I need and tomorrow be the Feast Day, Sunday.

Sunday, 998 NE

I did think that Illianers enjoy to celebrate, Tar Valoners run a close second. The Illuminators night blooming flowers were beautiful, and there were entertainers and merchants of every type imagineable. I never did be in Tar Valon for Sunday before. It truly be a sight to see.

Lem met up with a couple of friends from home, part of the group he had been searching for. Two women come to join the ranks of the initiates. Casabla has made some new friends of his own. He has become quite friendly with the Andorian Royalty, Galad Damodred, Gawyn Trakand and the Daughter Heir herself, I think there do be something going on between Casabla and Galad, for I did see them talking together with Gawyn, and then alone, as if they sent him away.

Elayne Trakand. Elayne was accompanied by a tom-boyish young woman with an odd ability. She could read auras around people to predict their future. I thought she was part of the day’s entertainers, but will keep in mind what she saw around me. A woman with a silver collar around her neck.

I saw Valdrid and then Lem and most of the others when I went to purchase supplies for the journey tomorrow. We need to be sure to have torches or lanterns, because I do no know what would happen if I were to attempt to channel in the Ways.

We left the Tower grounds early and went to the Ogier Grove, to the North end, where Valdrid said there was a Waygate. Viska was in the Grove waiting for us. As we neared the area, we heard a voice... Ogier, and young. Valdrid had been learning the language from this “young” Ogier lad of about 70. Aland wanted to go with us through the Ways and seek adventure. Valdrid managed to dissuade him. Viska was very put off by the idea of traveling in the Ways, but bound by his duty to guard and protect me and those with me. Before he could recover his shock we were inside the ways.

Yesterday I purchased a medalion for Viska similar to those I have already given to the rest of the group. I have not had the oportunity to give it to him yet. I do not trust my words with him. I find his presence very distracting. He be so quiet, makes me wonder what he be thinking.

We have traveled in the Ways for what seemed to be more than a week, though when we exited we found it had only been 7 days. We also found we were nowhere near our destination. We had emerged at the Waygate a mile south of Fal Dara. Our arival was unusual because the door to the Ways was broken, it cannot be locked and indeed it appears some of the local masons are walling it up to seal it.

I am concerned about our location. I found information in Tar Valon that the Blue are searching for the Eye of the World just a day’s ride north of Fal Dara. I do not know if Valdrid also found this information and misdirected us on purpose or if it is merely the coincidence of the Wheel weaving its will. I mentioned to him what I had learned and that I intended to tell him after we had completed my search for my mother. I had no intention of Hunting the Horn, I trust it to be found when the time is needful. My thoughts in telling Valdrid about the Blues searchings that we might make a one day trip out of our way and be done with it, for even if the Horn is here, I do not think he will be the one to find it. Also, the Blues were here a few weeks ago, it could be they have already found it. If I could read the Ogier language and navigate the Ways on my own, I would leave immediately. For now, I need him, and I need him focused - to get over this obsession.

Valdrid and I discussed with Viska and convinced him that this trip was worthy of one or two days of our time. The three of us then approached the rest. With minimal discord we agreed to leave tomorrow morning to head North toward the Blight.

What a day! What a night...

The Inn only had two rooms available so our party broke into groups of 3. I shared a room with Jaheed and Viska. Jaheed always sleeps on the floor so there was little issue about me taking the bed. Little good it did me though. I could not sleep. I had begun to take comfort in Jaheed’s loyal presence, but what comfort I got was offset by the presence of Viska. I do no know what it be, but in his presence I find myself feeling a foolish maid. I have met many handsome men, and indeed had several suitors, but I have never had time for such things. Now, when my attention be most desperately needed to find my mother, I am distracted by a man? I must seek to maintain control.

We traveled toward the Blight. Valdrid and Viska took care to point out the dangers. We are nearly to the place we seek. We have camped near several towers and lakes, and we can see the Mountains of Dhoom. I have set a ward against Shadowspawn that will last the night so we should not wake up in Trolloc soup.

Tameiryn's Journal Empty Re: Tameiryn's Journal

It was unnaturally hot today. This morning we encountered giant worms called jumara. We took off at a gallop and beat them to the foothills of the mountains, where the Borderlanders said they will not follow. Once into the foothills the scenery changed slightly. It was subtle, but everything appeared... less dead? Not really more alive, but as if it had died more recently than the rest. Then we encountered a perfectly healthy Oak tree. It was enormous! Just beyond it to the side was a hill and formed into the side of the hill was an arched stone doorway. Inside were stairs leading down to a large chamber. The floor was inset by a large oval, 2 feet deep, the sides of which appeared to be crystal. Indeed the walls of the chamber itself had crystals illumined inset in them. We searched the chamber and only found a few footprints in the dust. It appears the Blues have already been here, just as I suspected. Valdrid was reluctant to leave and admit the Horn was not here. He seemed certain that this was the Eye of the World. I had assumed the same thing, but he had no doubt whatsoever. I wonder, why was he so sure?

We returned to Fal Dara quickly and plan to leave via the Ways in the morning. Hopefully in a few days time we will arrive in Katar. Perhaps a couple of weeks and I will see my mother...

Well, Valdrid is getting better at navigating the Ways. Near as we can tell we are a few days south of Katar and made it in only 2 days. (It seemed like many more inside the Ways) We exited at a gate near an abandoned Ogier Stedding. I have never been to one, but the feeling was peculiar. I think that is what being shielded, burned out, or stilled would be like. I could sense the Power but it was dulled and beyond reach.

We walked through the forest and emerged near a road. We could see a villiage up the road and went to inquire where we were. The village was River Ridge, and we discovered they were having quite a problem with wolves. They seem interested in gaining our assistance in the matter and wish to provide us with supplies in return. They have told us of a shorter way to Katar than through the woods. It is undecided at this time if we will help the villagers. Jaheed has disappeared, wandered off perhaps to track the wolves?

We have decided that we could use the supplies and set off today to track the wolves. Jaheed was most helpful, he had tracked them part of the way yesterday. He showed us the carcas of a large bear, which it appears the wolves killed several days ago. We followed the wolves’ trail for several miles, then we came upon them, sleeping. We planned to attack them silently and take out as many as possible. I got one with my crossbow before Casabla stepped on a branch and alerted them. It was odd that they fled rather than fight. We did not have them at such an advantage.

Viska was furious with me, or as close to furious as the stone faced man gets. He insists on planning the next attack claiming I gave up our advantage. I pointed out it was NOT me who awoke them, but Casabla. We tracked them for a while discussing our options: continuing on to find the wolves, or going to their normal hunting grounds to see why they left. We headed to the ridge that Casabla had learned about from the villagers. We found a large cave, empty at the moment. In any case we set up to camp in the woods. I put a wall of air around us to prevent any retaliation from the wolves or whatever was occupying their cave, perhaps another bear.
